Well I am now relieved in the knowlege that I passed all my exams!!!:-) So over the next few months I am going to be aiming a great deal more of my efforts towards my project. Posted by James Saunders on 6th February 2004

I thought the RSS News Stream Reader I programmed in PHP may be of use to someone so I have put it on JLSNet in the Projects section.

JLSNet finally Indexed properly by Google

Posted by James Saunders on 6th February 2004

After a great deal of research into how to ‘entice’ Google to Deep Crawl websites I found a few interesting points out… Creating a super simple sitemap of all site links makes the Google Bots life easier. Each page should have a different Title so Google does not think they are duplicate pages. Getting as many people as you can to link to your site increases site Page Rank, which is the Google rating system.

XML News Page Upgrade..pt2

Posted by James Saunders on 5th February 2004

With my exams now all finished I can safely relax a little (for now… still got Final Year Project to get on with!) I have programmed a nice Site News Editor for my Admin backend which writes to the Site News XML/RSS file. My news feed has also been validated as correct by http://www.feedvalidator.org/. Had a little play with the Tech Headlines news feeder and have improved on the previous PHP code so it will work for any RSS feeds and only update the news if it is over 30 mins old.

XML News Page Upgrade

Posted by James Saunders on 3rd February 2004

Woah! I’m going all professional and have started playing about with XML! I should really be doing revision for what could possibly the hardest exam I ever do - Theoretical Computer Science B! but as any human would do, I am finding 101 other things to do other than revision. This News page is now powered with XML as an RSS feed! I have converted all previous news into the XML/RSS and created a front end generator to read it. This page is the result :-) You can even see older archived news (see link at the bottom of news page).
