New Page Added: Using AUX port and analog modem to dialup ISP

Posted by James Saunders on 30th August 2005

It is finally here! A solution to configure a Cisco router with a modem connected to the AUX port in order to dial an old dialup ISP. This config is something I have been trying for ages, but got totally confused each time I tried it! Here it is, as simple as I could get it! Normally when you are dialing an ISP you do not want to be engaged, but on this one occasion I am glad to be engaged… to my wonderful girlfriend Claire Hayward!! :-)

New Host www.ewonline.co.uk

Posted by James Saunders on 30th August 2005

JLSNet is going further up in the world, instead of being hosted from a little Intel server on the floor of my mates house (thank you Ben!), I have finally loosened the purse strings and splashed out for JLSNet to be hosted by a proper host, www.ewonline.co.uk. This of course has many advantages… more bandwidth, faster, upto date MySQL/PHP/Apache, web email accounts, less hammering of my mates internet connection and less downtime. There may be some teathing problems as I transfer the site across, but things are already looking better. Some pages that may come soon… Cisco ISP Dialup config, Cisco NAT on a stick config.

New Page Added: FAQ

Posted by James Saunders on 27th August 2005

Getting increasinly boared with people asking me the same questions… “Please can you send me free CCNA questions or papers?”, “Please can you send me the source code to your project?”, “I would like to contribute towards this project for further developments?”, “I am looking into doing a project on networking, please can you give me a title/topic?” I have decided to put together a FAQ page, I have attempted to answer the questions as fully and fairly as I can in an attempt to stop any further re-accurances! I am, on the other hand, glad to see that many people are visited and interested in the site.

All Change!

Posted by James Saunders on 2nd August 2005

Since my last entry a great deal has happened! First of all there as Live-8 - it was a great laugh (although I was a little peeved that we did not get to see Pink Floyd or The Who because it over ran and we had to catch the train home (I place the fault entirely on Maria Carey who was constantly demanding things on stage and everyone wanted off!), Live-8 will go down in history and I can say I was part of it! and so… After my poor car Bert dying (head gasket) I had to get the poor old chap away and pay £25 for it!! My dad kindly brought me a second hand car :-) A lovely Red Gold MkII 1.6, he brought it on a Friday and by the following Monday I got a phone call offering me a job WITH A NEW CAR!!! And so after a bit of confusion I have decided that I will need to sell the Golf my dad brough me even though I have started to fall in love with it (£600 if anyone is interested?). Rewind!!! did Jimbo say he had been offered a job!!!? Yes, it is true, I have not got a job as a “Junior Cisco Network Engineer” I will be working from Portsmouth with a company called Xxxxx-Xxxx fixing Cisco networks, I start the job on the 8th August and am a little nervous but excited about getting proper pay and a real chance to learn more about the real world networking.

For the last two weeks I have been in Shepton Mallet working for ICC doing sound and recording for a Christian Conference called New Wine, the days are very long and a serious case of burning the candle at both ends is starting to take its effect, also having a huge effect is the fact that Claire and I have never been apart for more than a week, and we are finding it tough been apart for two weeks :-( and, to add salt to the wound, as soon as I get back on Saturday night (6th) I have to leave Monday morning (8th) for a week of training in Manchester for my new job. I am looking forward to a bit of normality anytime soon!
