ViralTags Experiment

Below is a matrix of 120 ‘ViralTags’, this is part of an experiment, started by Founders Cafe, to distribute links around blogs in order to achieve higher Google and Technorati rankings. In brief, it works by blog owners copy and pasting (infecting) their own blog with the ‘ViralTags’ matrix thus passing on a collection of links. Please do give this a go…

Instructions:
- Copy and paste this blog entry including the matrix of ‘ViralTags’ below and these instructions (courtesy of Founders Cafe).
- Substitute the Host Tag and one of the ‘ViralTags’ in the matrix with your anchor text of choice with your blog’s URL. Please keep anchor text to a max of 3 words to keep the matrix size manageable.
- When you get a ping back from someone that has your link in one of their ‘ViralTags’, practice good courtesy by copying his/her Host Tag’s anchor text (automatically the associated link will also be copied) and paste it over one of your ‘Viral Tags’ below.
- Encourage and invite your readers to do the same and soon this can grow virally.

As more and more bloggers copy and paste this matrix, the more backlinks you will have with your anchor text. If everybody who copy and paste from your blog does the same, pretty soon this will spread and go viral. So, the sooner you participate, the more links with anchor text you will receive.

I know that you just started Viralink and haven’t even had a chance to see how it works yet, but the idea for Viralinks has already been updated with something called ViralTags and it is outpacing Viralinks on my site by 10 to 1…and it’s only three days old! Looks an interesting idea, unfortunatley I can’t do it as my blog doesn’t have pingback / trackback (as it gives way to much spam)

Hi Ricky, it does not matter if your blog does not have pingbacks/trackbacks as it is also automatically done through Technorati (which I believe your blog is already in).
The idea is very simple and if followed correctly should yield an interesting distribution of links.

If we were to assume that only 3 people were to copy the VirlaTags matrix into their own blogs, here are how the numbers add up:
I will use the term saturation to describe the spread of the ViralTags with 0 being your blog, 1 being the 1st generation, 2 being 2nd generation and so on.
0 - 0
1 - 3
2 - 12
3 - 39
4 - 93
5 - 336
6 - 1065
7 - 3252
8 - 9813
9 - 29,496
10 - 88,545
The above numbers rely on 3 people copying and pasting the ViralTags matrix into their blog and it then being replicated again 3 times continually for 10 generations. I think you will agree that the numbers are quite staggering!
After just 4 days I am starting to see some results:
If you search for “JLS Cisco Networking” in Google it comes back with 12 links.
My Technorati ranking has gone from 1,548,804 to 494,674 (lower is better).
I have accumulated 11 backlinks (that I know of).
Google PageRank not yet effected (currently 4).

@Kassper: I am trying to stick to the rules of this experiment as much as I can, the second rule of this experiment is “Only 1 link per person”, I therefore will only link to one of your blogs - I know it sounds harsh, but I want to try and keep my ViralTags matrix as diverse as I can so there are enough tags to share around. Hey Jim,
it looks loosely a bit like the Million dollar pixel site, that spun off the random linking, but without any pictures or the links being sorted into context, doesnt really seem that much interest to me sorry.
I thought the million dollar pixel thing was awesome, and where as it spawned lots of copy cat sites, theres probably a lot of potential for doing this in a new and interesting, I would like to see sites linked of a picture of geographical area or something.

If you search for “JLS Cisco Networking” in Google it comes back with 616 links.
My Technorati ranking is now 206,683 (lower is better).
My Technorati authority is 29 (higher is better).
I have accumulated 24 backlinks (that I know of).
Google PageRank not yet effected (currently 4).

Results - Week 3:
If you search for “JLS Cisco Networking” in Google it now comes back with 549 links (gone down?).
My Technorati ranking is now 137,642 (lower is better).
My Technorati authority is 43 (higher is better).
I have lost count of the number of backlinks.
Google PageRank not yet effected (currently 4).
